Sebastian Vettel is confident Red Bull can beat Williams this weekend after a disappointing start to their Japanese GP race weekend.
After being down in ninth in Free Practice One at Suzuka on Friday morning, the German improved later in the day in FP2 but it was still only good enough for fifth place. His team-mate Daniel Ricciardo was P7 in the morning while an accident in the afternoon meant he was only P10.
While pacesetters Mercedes enjoyed a second lead over the rest of the pack through Lewis Hamilton, Vettel believes Red Bull has what it takes to beat Williams, McLaren and Ferrari.
“I think we can definitely do better than fifth, but we may hit the limit when we get to third!” he said. “Mercedes seem to be very quick around here but I think we can improve, especially on a short run.
“It would be nice to fight the Mercedes in the race, who knows if it rains, but otherwise we will be against Williams, McLaren, who seem stronger here, and Ferrari.”
