The 2014 F1 season has been a disaster for Sebastian Vettel so far, but Red Bull team principal Christian Horner insists “he’s not letting his chin drop”.
Having won 13 races last year, including the final nine of the season to win a fourth consecutive World Championship, Vettel has struggled during the eight races so far this campaign.
He failed to see the chequered flag in three races while his best performances were a couple of P3s in Malaysia and Canada.
This weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix proved to be another disastrous one for the reigning Champion as he qualified P12 and then retired on lap 35.
However despite his struggles, Horner feels Vettel will toughen it out.
“Like any driver, he’s going to be frustrated,” he is quoted as saying to Crash.net. “But he’s a four-time World Champion. He’s won all those grands prix with Renault power. He’s got the same engineers and mechanics working on his car that he had all the success with.
“He’s mature enough to know that these situations aren’t designed and it’s not due to anyone not trying hard. It will switch and he’s not letting his chin drop.”
