NASCAR’s problems are the results of their own doing. Poor leadership and management are a major contributor to its decline. The saying “The customer is always right” falls upon deaf ears when it comes to NASCAR’s leadership and as such is driving fans away. The way NASCAR is presented by Fox and ESPN are also driving away fans by the boat load. NASCAR’s admission to using pro wrestling tactics, like the phony debris cautions, to make the races more exciting is driving fans away. Not to mention the IROC-like cars and the appearance of Toyota which is also driving fans away. And NASCAR’s decline started before the economy tanked. Empty seats in the grandstand started before the economy went south. The falling ratings started before the economy went bad. NASCAR’s decline can be traced to one person. Brian France and his poor decisions and lack of leadership.

Yes I agree there has been a lot of poor mistakes made by some of the people at the top of NASCAR management that are driving people away and its very sad because the on track racing has been very good.

Nobody wants to admit that young people today are not nearly as interested in automobiles as we were in our youth.
This is interesting given the fact that a new Camaro/Challenger/Mustang is a far better car than what we had. However if you will notice, its not young people, but middle aged that buy them.
Given the fact that Indy Car, F1, and the other open wheel classes dont have the baggage of pretending to be the car in the drive way, they stand to do better going forward.
But trying to create artificial excitement by using pro wrestling tactics will only drive more people away. And the people that leave will be those with disposable income to buy the sponsors product.

LeMans is the future of popular racing…I just hope it doesn’t get whored out like NASCAR with it’s abundant crowds of non-racing intelligence and richie rich dads taking their spoiled lil’ brat kids to the races. I enjoy going to their races w/ 15k crowds and REAL cars, and REAL caution flags, and REAL drivers. NASCAR is too dominated by TV, they ruined a good thing….
